Yanka Erimtan, also known as Yankı, was born in Istanbul in 1965. She grew up in Lausanne, Switzerland, where she studied at Ecole Brillantmont and at the Ecole Nouvelle de la Suisse Romande. She moved to New York City in the early eighties where she continued her studies at the Parsons School of Design, receiving a B.F.A. in painting.
